Simon works with local primary schools to encourage a healthy attitude towards food and our environment.
What the service offers
The Sticky Fingers project encourages children, young people and their families to be more aware of healthy eating and to take an interest in where their food comes from through developing growing, picking, and cooking projects across East Brighton primary schools, using local and organic produce. The project aims to contribute to a reduction in obesity through encouraging children and their families to think about eating more healthily, and to support more growing projects in East Brighton by promoting the ‘Plot to Plate’ strategy. Simon works with local primary schools in developing and maintaining allotment sites and, with the schools, offers an opportunity for the children to cook and eat what they are growing, and to invite their families to share the food. Simon is also able to link the schools into the local allotment clubs which include Moulsecoomb Forest Garden Project, the Whitehawk Community Food Project and Stanmer Organics.
