Community Cookery

Erika wants more people to know how to cook good, fresh and low-cost food for themselves and their families.

What the service offers

Erika’s accredited training course, Cookability, aims to give people the skills to run their own cookery groups, and offers training for the local community on kitchen skills, food hygiene and healthy eating. Erika also provides taster sessions and cookery demonstrations at local events.

The Cookability training course is run three times a year and is a ten week accredited course. It trains people on how to prepare food safely, to think about food hygiene, to understand the balance of good health when cooking for others and how to plan and prepare when running cookery groups. It is a very popular course with a high success rate, and as such has now been rolled out across other areas of the city by Brighton & Hove Food Partnership.

The service aims to contribute to a reduction in obesity by promoting healthy eating and providing excellent training opportunities for local families and workers.
