Sally and Jenny work with carers to make sure they receive all the help that is available to them, both through existing services and by developing new community initiatives.
What the service offers
The project provides one to one support, group support, information, and a signposting and referral service for carers and their families, as well as providing health promotion and training for both residents and service providers.
The service has two distinctly different parts, yet both work together for the benefit of local carers in East Brighton.
Jenny is the support worker and as such is able to provide one-to-one support to carers and their families referred to the project from other agencies, and via the Healthy Living Prescription scheme. This one to one work can be done over the phone or face-to-face and can take place in the home, or at a community venue including the Carers Centre and the Healthy Living Centre. Support offered includes: information, emotional support, advocacy and help with grant applications.
Sally is the development worker and works closely with many local services to explore and implement systems to better identify and support carers, particularly focusing on those harder to reach groups in our communities. Examples of agencies worked with include GPs, local secondary schools, pharmacists and community groups. Sally also provides training for both teams of professionals and local resident & community groups in raising awareness of carers issues.
The service aims to increase the number of carers in East Brighton that have access to services they are entitled to, and to provide access to a range of other services available to carers and their families. The project also helps to contribute to a reduction in stress, isolation and anxiety amongst a very vulnerable group.
